As always, I've been on the hunt for cool new skin care products. I've also gotten a lot of emails and Facebook messages asking me about organic and/or cruelty free skincare that is legit. The Michael Todd True Organics website advertises that their products are not only organic but also cruelty free. Now just a quick disclaimer before I get deluged with questions or people debating what "cruelty free" means: I am by no means an authority on organic products, I'm learning a lot and have been for a few years. In terms of what is truly "cruelty free", my understanding is that the Leaping Bunny website has the most accurate and up to date list of certified cruelty free products. For me, a product is NOT cruelty free if it is 1. Owned by a parent company that isn't cruelty free or 2. Is being sold in China. It is ILLEGAL, as per the Chinese government, for beauty and skin care products to be sold in China WITHOUT being tested on animals. This is not a bash on China, this is just a fact, so please do not make unnecessary comments bashing China or any other comment that shows your ass.
I have some awesome YouTube beauty gurus to share with you that are 100% cruelty free: beautysavvy, NYCgeorgette, DebtheMakeupNoob and SincerelySaraiC. These ladies are as real as it gets, very helpful and creative. I have a lot of respect for them and if you want to get into high quality cruelty free products, check them out!!!

Now that that's out there, let's get down to the nitty gritty. Btw, that wasn't some cute pun meant to enhance this post. I really hate intentional puns.
I received a very generous deluxe sample of Michael Todd True Organics Jojoba Charcoal Scrub in September (!!!!). I've been looking for my Holy Grail scrub for a long time since Lancôme discontinued my beloved Gel Éclat. The sample that I received is almost full sized and has lasted me a long time and still has lots of time left. I use it 3x a week, usually in the morning.
I love this exfoliator so very much!! I'm big on scent and this has such a energizing, happy scent. I like that Michael Todd uses essential oils in each skin care product for fragrance and performance as opposed to the fragrance used to cover up the active ingredients.
Performance wise, I gotta say, it is truly a delight. I really feel like my skin is as smooth, really clean but hydrated. Sometimes cleansers and exfoliators leave my face feeling like raw meat rubbed in gravel (I'm looking in your general direction, St. Ives!). Anytime you remove dead skin and even out the skins texture, the rest of your skincare performs better. It's almost like stretching before you exercise and I know this because I am such an athlete ;)
The charcoal helps absorb any excess oil on the skin and the product is black, just a heads up. It seems like a no brainer, but you'd be surprised at how many people truly don't understand why. What color is charcoal? Duh. It won't stain, so once a week, I like to use it as a mask before I scrub the skin. This is a very key trick if you are self tanning afterwards! It's just the extra step to give the most even color possible.
I really have no complaints about Michael Todd's Jojoba Charcoal Scrub, except for wishing I had the full size ;) This is a product that is flirting with Holy Grail status. It would be more than awesome to use this with Borghese's Fango mask, that would literally be the ultimate spa day!
Do you guys have any favorites when it comes to exfoliators? Drop me a line, I'd love to read any suggestions!!! Don't forget to subscribe! I've got the handy dandy button on the right side of the screen, one click and you get Mo' Magic before anyone else!
