Mid-Summer Must Haves For the Broke Babes!

How much do we love Hayley Mills in Summer Magic? Anyway....
Summertime is great for minimal makeup, but that doesn't mean you need to be a total sloth. Nay, it's a perfect time to bust out that one color you got in a gift with purchase or that one that was so bright and lovely on the tester unit but once you got it home, screamed "welcome to whore island".
This summer is going to be all about simplicity. Mixing beautiful brights with classic neutrals, the chic level is off the charts. If you aren't into brightly colored clothing or simply cannot afford a new wardrobe, choosing a fuchsia lip or a seafoam green nail can be the perfect way to accessorize. Even better? Finding these gems for under $20!
think polished nails are the most inexpensive and simplest accessories a person can have. A couple years ago I made a New Years resolution to polish my nails on a regular basis. Why? Sometimes something as trivial as polished nails can make a difference in how you feel and carry yourself.
Maybelline is an inexpensive brand that has a huge assortment of colors that give some of the higher end brands a run for their money. A great universal shade I found is Green With Envy, a pretty light green that reminds me of those after dinner mints I sneak from my sisters snack basket. Great for any skin tone, it looks just as good on the toes as it does on the finguh's!
Pay no attention to the mistakes I made with my manicure, but definitely pay attention/drool over the color, Essie's
"Lapiz of Luxury". This is Holy Grail territory boys and girls. When I got to the polish section of Target and was debating between this shade and another, the boyfriend was the tie breaker. He gets mucho brownie points for it! I love me some periwinkle and this is dreamier than Justin Biebers hair. I hate that ass hat. Anyways, this polish is the bomb!
The reason why this post is way tardy is because I've been obsessed with this color, "After Hours", from L'oreal. No I am not kidding around. The reaction I had to this is the same I had for Chanel's "Vamp" back in the day. Whereas Chanel opened the door for dark nails to bump up from punk singer to glam squad, L'oreal is the president of that clique. "After Hours" is a gorgeous dark navy blue that doesn't scream "hi! I'm trying to be a rebel by wearing blue polish", rather it is a quiet hand gesture of  "fu@% you, I'm gorgeous".
I want a pair of patent leather heels this color and maybe a lovely bag. Fan girl dribble and drool!
These are great colors for a date to an outdoor concert at the Hollywood Bowl or a backyard BBQ. Even though I don't endorse being a human brisket, it also looks great with a tan. Just sayin'....
Well, well, well, look what we have here. Two of my fave lip brands!
EOS wins the day (again) with their lovely Pomegranite Raspberry lip balm. True to it's name, you get a scent sensation for the nose while your lips are spoiled rotten with shea butter, jojoba oil and vitamin E. Plus the packaging always gets people curious!
Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers became a fave of mine after I read that Brittany Murphy used to wear this. Well, our late homegirl (RIP) was right-e-o! This is a great pick for you that want a smidge of color but aren't ready for mama's summer lip colors. I cannot say enough about this. Whenever you see me wearing a lipcolor that looks natural but chic, this is what I'm wearing.
See? I'm a nice beauty blogger who shares her beauty secrets ;) You're welcome!

In the world of drugstore lipgloss, Revlon reigns supreme! I have been a fan since highschool and still get giddy when I see new colors! Now, these glosses to me are everyday colors, but to you natural and minimalist folks out there, it's a big step. Pink Pop, Fuchsia Finery and Sugar Violet are from Revlons Super Lustrous line and are the best non gloppy, easy to control glosses on the block. There is no scent to them, unlike their stink bomb sister lipstick, I'm looking at you, Super Lustrous Lipstick!
Now, just a heads up, Revlon is in the middle of changing packaging, so you may see some that are in square packaging or some that are in round. Same stuff. Don't freak out.
Revlon definitely has seized the title of "Holy Grail Drugstore Line"! Ever since their lip butters were launched, I've been scheming of ways to just have my own (unused, doy!) tester unit at home. I want and would wear each and every shade. The trio above just so happen to be my fave. Juicy Papaya (left) and Berry Smoothie (middle) are very tame in terms of bright colors, so if you are wanting a more safe option, I'd go there. If you're an attention ho like me (and let's face it, why wouldn't you be?), you are probably peeling out of your driveway to purchase Lollipop (right). I have no words, except for the following: Lollipop trumps any Chanel, Dior or YSL fuchsia, magenta or hot pink. EVER! Yeah, I said Chanel.
The Anywhere Stick is ELF's answer to NARS' Multiple. You can use these on the eyes for a sheer was of color, the cheeks for a natural blush or on the lips topped with gloss. You can even use the lighter shades as highlighters.
My two faves (pictured above) are Persimmon (left) and Pink Lemonade (right). Persimmon is a great highlighter for light to medium skin tones whereas Pink Lemonade is the perfect blush for those skin tones.

I actually like to use Persimmon as a cream shadow, accentuating the inner corners of the eye and brow bone. Finish with a classic cat eye and you're ready to punk up some bitches.
They aren't generously packed with product, so if you use these everyday, there is a chance you will run out before summer is over. The good thing is these are only $1, so you can buy fistfuls and still be able to afford your favorite Essie polish. Yes, that was my rationale for buying these and my Lapiz of Luxury polish.
Another fun look is pairing a gold shimmery cream shadow with a double lined eye. You heard me. Double lined eye! I used a deep indigo lining pen, drawn a bit thicker than usual and flicked up at the edge. Following the first line, I used a turquoise shimmer liquid liner and drew a thin line on top of the original line, above the natural lash line. Make sense? You don't want to go above the width of the original line, you really want to simply accentuate it, leaving a thin line of navy on the lash line.
NYX has some gorgeous liquid liners! I've been loving the Electric Blue!

If you want a bit more emphasis on the eye, I love using cream shadows like Maybellines Color Tattoo by itself or as a base for a more dramatic look. These are two great colors for summer because you get that bright pop with Painted Purple and a sun kissed edge with Bold Gold.
I like to use a concealer brush to paint cream shadows on if I'm applying more than one color. It will look clean and seamless for a nice ombré eye. For golds or taupes, applying with the warmth if your finger gives a really pretty smoky look that looks great with bronze skin or a strong red lip.
Wet N Wild is one of the most underrated cosmetic companies ever. I mean, let's face it, we all kinda associated it with the chicks that shopped at Deb and drove Geo's. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....
So yeah, Wet N Wild shadows are ah-mazing and for less than 5 bones, you can get a gorgeous trio like my fave for summer, "I'm Getting Sunburned". Ironic, as I did get sunburned but it isn't anywhere near as pretty.
The best thing about this list is none of these products are from those limited edition teases, that stores maybe get 3 pieces of each color. Jerks. These are available year round so if you are reading this at Xmas and want a bright look for your holiday party, you can hit Walgreens with success!

XoXo Miss Lady Mo

P. S. Please do not wear all of these colors together. At the same time. Ever. Please. Do not!
