I may not always get my party on each New Years Eve, but that won't stop me from getting my glam on! I prepared 4 looks for the most chic NYE ever, starting with skin!
If you plan on partying, you have got to take care of your skin. Drinking and sweating from dancing can make your skin look like a skid mark. Ain't nobody got time for that! What can you do? Prevent with some prep time!
PRIMP & PREP
Anytime I go out, since I was a teenager, I loved this ritual of prepping and pampering my skin! Nowadays it's just the same, but with more product.
To prep for a night out, you really want to have beautiful, glowing, hydrated skin. I say it all the damn time: if your skin looks beautiful, the less you have to cover.
Start off by cleaning off any makeup from the day. Even if you went barefaced, sweep a makeup towelette over the skin.
I've been using Derma-e's Microdermabrasion Scrub lately and I'm liking how it really retexturizes my skin while revitalizing it. Taking the dead skin off is key to making makeup go on smoothe and making the skin look glowing.
I follow the scrub with Michael Todd's Pumpkin Mask that I recently received in one of my beauty subscription services. The one two punch of using a mask after a scrub is pretty standard in gettin your skin in order. The mask absorbs any excess oils and toxins while hydrating.
After your skin is freshened up, pat dry and apply a premoisturizer serum. Depending on what your skincare concern is will determine the kind of serum you need, but e'erbody need a serum! I'm using a new one from one of my favorite companies, Chella. The Master 7 Protocol Serum helps bring dry, uneven and dull skin back to life! It smells good too, which is my thang. I love using this at this time of year. I feel like it really plumps my skin up and makes my pores look smaller. I'll take it.
Out of all the places on the skin, the delicate eye area takes the biggest beating when you go out for a night on the town. The thin, delicate skin around the eye area is the most sensitive and will show signs of stress or damage first. If you are smoking or around smokers, drinking or are a habitual forget-to-take-your-makeup-off-chick, you better check yourself and get an eye cream now. I got your game girl! Partiers are usually the worst about taking care of their skin, when out of anyone, they should be the most diligent.
Chella's Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream is key for both male and female revelers alike. Taking the size of a pea, dab your fingertip into the product and tap around the occular bone. The occular bone is located about a fingers width from the eye and no skincare product should really go above the occular bone. Repeat for the other eye. The patting on with your finger tip, warms up the product but also stimulates the eye area, brightening it slightly and temporarily.
If you glean anything from this portion, please take your makeup off, ESPECIALLY EYE MAKEUP!!! You won't be gettin stank eye you'll be getting pink eye, skidmark girl!
When Prescriptives went under, I was majorly bummed because one of my favorite creams was in danger of disappearing: Vibrant! Now I get that you can still get it for now on their website, but just for future knowledge, MAC absorbed it and renamed it Strobe Cream. They also took on the False Lashes mascara, but that's for another post.
Anyway, Strobe Cream! This is a vitamin packed cream that has opalescence to it. It's a cream that makes bare skin glow without needing highlighter or makeup, so if you aren't down with makeup, but still want to glow, grab it!
Caring for your lips is just as important as the rest of your skin and since I was in highschool I've lived for Softlips. I got some in my stocking and I think it might've been the best gift ever! I like to apply a healing lip balm before putting on any lipstick or pencil or gloss. Like moisturizer is for the face, using a balm on the lips makes any makeup apply even and look plump!
I'm switching it up a bit and putting on a BB cream before my eye makeup, instead of applying foundation afterwards. I want to spotlight my skin equally with my eyes so applying it first, makes it easier to keep the look balanced since you can see the partly finished product on the skin.
I am loving how amazeballs my skin is looking lately and want to show it off by not covering it up. Dr. Brandt's BB Matte is just the thing I want. Normally I shy away from matte foundations or BB creams because they tend to look chalky or make my skin dry. This gives a very natural matte look while still showing off the opalescent Strobe cream beneath.
