This is a look I've always wanted to do, but was recently inspired after seeing some beautiful tattoos around town and art online.
I didn't use white paint for my face, rather, I used NYX's Jumbo Pencil in Milk before using a lighter shade of BB Cream from Dr. Jart and Sue Devitt's Seaweed Pressed Powder. This gives a more pale look without looking clownish.
I heavily relied on Be A Bombshell's felt tip liner to sketch the blueprint of the design, starting with the eyes.
Using a gel to flatten the brows, I go over them with Milk. After the brows are lightened, begin to sketch the eye sockets of the skull. Around the eye, I made semi-circles, almost a lace pattern. Be creative, this is ONLY a suggestion :)
Using Wet N Wild's Petal Pusher 8 color palette, I used the bottom left definer shadow, a grape color, all over the lid and underneath, across lower lashes. Don't stress about precise lines or application, as we will be using several shades of navy and violet to create the final look.
Using the crease color on the left, apply to the entire eye, starting at the crease, blend into lid and lower lash line.
Using the crease color on the right of the palette and a stiff brush, accentuate the socket. You're basically going to go over your blueprint lines with this shade.
I love using jumbo pencils for these looks, as they give a great effect with multiple uses.
For this look, I applied the navy jumbo pencil from Wet N Wild along the upper and lower lash and waterlines.
With a larger and fluffier shadow brush, use NYX's Morocco, a deep, pearlescent indigo all over the lid, blending out towards socket. This seals in the navy pencil, but also gives a dual chrome effect to the rest of the shadow.
Using the Be A Bombshell felt liner again, sketch out your facial designs. I chose a spiderweb on the forehead and exaggerated eye brows. I also sketched out a portion of my nose to be blacked out, as a portion of the "skull".
Sharpen your Milk pencil again and draw where your "smile" will be, starting from the lips, corner of the mouth, out to the ear.
For this look, I wanted it to be more Theda Bara, vamp sugar skull. To get that look, I used MAC's Currant lip pencil to sketch and fill in a "bee stung" lip.
Using a lip brush I patted on Milani's Sangria, a dupe for MAC's Rebel over the pencilled in portion.
I actually used the lip liner to create a lotus flower on my chin as well as other facial accents.
Using a black gel liner from Mirenesse and Shiseido's lip brush, begin to paint over your blue print, including all facial accents that were sketched out with the felt tip liner.
Start at the inner corner of the mouth, define a thinner black line over the white "smile" area. Start making hash marks over it to replicate the teeth of the skull.
To get a bit more volume on the finished look, I actually mixed the black gel liner with the lip stick for the lotus on my chin, but also to define the lip.
The finished look looks awesome, if I may say so. I pulled my hair up into a loose top knot. Again, this doesn't need to be overly "neat" a little bit of a messy look, works well with the makeup.
If you can get a flower in the same color family, plums in my case, add it to your top knot. I used a lavender flower from a bouquet I recently got and dried it this week. I used a purple ribbon from the same bouquet to create a choker, daintily tied in a bow, in the back of the neck.
If this look hadn't scared my daughter, I might've tried to find a way to incorporate the look into everyday ;)
