Beverly Hill's Cosmetics, aka BH Cosmetics, has been a staple in many a makeup collectors palette wardrobe. They specialize in mammoth palettes, which are chocked full of every color and variant of that color, more than one would need to create any look.
I recently received some samples of their new California collection in the mail and just got to reviewing it. The colors I got were a matte deep purple, that is almost dual chrome, from the Hollywood set; a sandy, shimmery caramel shade from the San Francisco collection; and finally, a beautiful true gold from the Malibu collection.
I wanted to create a look from these three samples, a look that would be out of the box of what I usually pair together and what I got was truly lovely......
First off, BH Cosmetics' shadows NEED a base to apply to. There are many other brands of shadows that don't need a base, however, without a base, the BH shadows drag a bit, don't blend as well, but most importantly, the pigment is way more intense with a base. I find for these shadows, something that is a creamy shadow or creamier shadow base works perfectly to prime the lids. For this look, I used NYX Jumbo Pencil in "Milk".
Using a crease brush, apply the purple shade from the Hollywood palette on 3/4 of the crease, stopping just short of the inner corner and then from outer crease, brushed into the lash line, stopping above the pupil.
Taking a firm shadow brush, pat the gold from the Malibu palette, from the inner corner of the eye and buffed up, below crease. Apply along the lower lash line.
From inner corner, begin application of the caramel shade in the crease, stopping at the center. Apply from outer corner from lower lash line, to center of the lower lashes.

For the rest of the look I used Be A Bombshell Cosmetics felt tip liner in Onyx as well as their blush in Sweet Cheeks, Chella brow pencil in Dark Brown, L'oreal Voluminous Power Volume mascara and Tarte Complexion Brightening Lip Color in Med-Tan.
Be A Bombshell makes the best felt liner around. Period. If you have never purchased this, you really must like to torture yourself. I swear, this liner really makes the most idiot proof cat eye ever! If you have had scary encounters with liquid liner, this felt tip pen will assuage your fearful heart and give you the best eyes you've ever had. It is beyond favorite for me. Be A Bombshell cosmetics' felt pen eyeliner is my Holy Grail liner. End of story.
I think the whole product line of Be A Bombshell has been touched by an angel, because the pigment on their Sweet Cheeks blush is to die for! It's a peachy pink that is so natural and so stunning that I've tried to figure out excuses to wear it every day and with every look. If a blush could be considered a "one size (color) fit's all", this would be it. I'd say unless you are a woman of color in more of the deep spectrum or exceptionally fair, this would be the perfect addition to your color wardrobe.
Chella's brow pencil is the automatic kind, meaning that sharpening is unnecessary. The tip on this is very small and precise, making it a perfect product if you are using a magnifying mirror to do your brows. Chella creators, if you are reading this, this pencil would be greatly improved if this was a dual ended brow pencil. Seriously, it would be genius to have a dual ended brow pencil that is thick on one end and thin on the other, so that you could apply color more broadly with the bigger end and concentrate on the arch or the smaller areas that need more precision with the tiny end. I love everything else about this product, but it probably won't be Holy Grail until that second end is added. I hate using 2 different products for my brows. First world problems ;)
L'oreal, as I have mentioned before, is the proud mama to Lancome cosmetics, but has often found itself in the JV position to Lancomes Varsity. There are many products that are virtually identical, but before I get some cheapskate that cries "Its the same products, just different packaging!!!!", I'm here to say : close but no cigar.
Now that I got that out of my system, the Voluminous Power Volume mascara is one of the closest I have found to the Hypnose Drama mascara from Lancome. I've never been big on L'oreal mascara just as I've never been a fan of Lancomes mascara, until recently. The VPV mascara is definitely worth your 7 bucks. I'd venture to say that it's better than the Hypnose Drama and unless there is a Gift With Purchase, don't spend the money on the Hypnose. The lashes you'll get are lush and full and the closest thing to looking like you have false lashes on than, well, having false lashes on. Oh and re: the packaging? Sleek black packaging with L'oreal written in gold.
For lips, I skipped liner and went straight to one of Tarte's newest products that promises to be the perfect tone for enhancing your complexion. I don't know about that, but the texture is a dream and the color is the most perfect pinky nude I have ever tried on. It trumps any brand, anywhere.
Finally, the shadow review . BH Cosmetics really has a shade for everyone and more. My main disappointment is how hard it was to get the shadows on the brush. I've experienced this on occasion with BH Cosmetics and I'm wondering if it's the same formula across the board for all of their shadows. You know how if you use certain shadows wet, it actually compromises the shadow so it's difficult to ever apply it dry again? I didn't find it was as much of an issue with the gold shade from Malibu, but the purple shade from the Hollywood palette, it was so difficult to get color on the brush that I thought I had already used the shadow previously and had applied it wet, which I didn't.
Overall, I loved the color once I got it on my lid, it just was a pain to work with. As I said earlier, you must have a shadow base for this, the creamier the better or else it won't be as long wearing nor as intense in terms of color!!!
I would love to try more of their products, like their blushes. Maybe its just the shadows that have been tough for me to work with. Bottom line: BH Cosmetics provides the widest range of color and finish of ANY cosmetics brand, high end or drugstore combined. BH Cosmetics is also the best value in the cosmetics cosmos and the perfect treat for any beauty junkie wanting to experiment with shades and finishes that might be beyond their comfort zone, without having to resort to selling ones own plasma for...
