Valentines Day Makeup A Go Go

This spring, there are tons of great trends in makeup! One of my favorites are pastel eyes with a lined waterline.
While eating Fun Dip in my living room, one sugar stick closer to diabetus, I decided to do a cute, spring trend look for Valentines Day. So without further adieu....

Sweet As Candy

The first look is inspired by the colors and looks of spring. Pastels are very trendy for spring and with careful application, you can avoid looking like an Easter egg, especially if it's only Valentines Day. How EMBARRASSING for you!
To make great eyes, you gotta use great product. Gather up your products and get started!

EYES

Using NYX's Jumbo Pencil in "Milk", prime the entire eye from lash line to brow bone. This matte white shade will really enhance the pastel shades and will also make the shadows last longer!
Salty Cosmetics has some great mineral based loose shadows and using Glamazoid was the shade I thought of immediately! Concentrating the application of the shadow to the lid, fade upward to the brow bone. It should look more of an ombré look as opposed to full coverage from lid to brows. That just looks like shit.
Take your shadow brush and brush the remnants of the Glamazoid under the lower lash line. You don't need to be perfect, so put down your business card.

A great alternative to a black eyeliner is a smoky grey. Grey pairs well with pastels as it gives definition without looking harsh or clashing. If I were being a fashion Douchelord, I'd say something like, "Grey  is the new black!", as I smugly drink my Pinot Noir.
Anyway, where was I? Oh right! For this look I used Jordana's grey automatic liner to line the upper and lower waterlines. Be careful to NOT line the inner corner of the eye. I actually start to taper both waterlines 3/4 of the way through.
To give the upper lash line a bit more definition without going wild and going cat eye crazy, I lined the upper lash line with very soft strokes. Get as close to the lashes as possible, almost brushing the pencil into the lashes. This creates a cleaner, non "lost weekend" smudgy look but also gives the lashes a fuller fringe.
Finish eyes with two coats of my favorite mascara, Benefits "They're Real". Apply sparingly to lower lashes, many using it to get the pink shadow off but also neaten up these babies.

FACE

People always ask me why I do the eyes first and not the face. Let me tell you, there is no wrong or right way to apply makeup. There are actually many, MANY famous makeup artists that use products and techniques that make me give the big ole thumbs down. To each their own! For me, applying the eyes first, especially when using loose eye shadow or a dramatic color palette, makes for an easier, non drying clean up around the delicate eye area. No one is perfect and even though I consider myself an artist with a steady hand, dark shadows like to make a fool of me.
Blah, blah, blah!

Prior to applying my eye makeup, as always I started with clean skin, primed with a serum and eye cream applied on the orbital bone. Instead of applying moisturizer, letting it set and THEN applying foundation, I actually mixed a bit of MAC's Strobe Cream with my L'oreal True Match foundation, getting more of a tinted moisturizer with a light to medium coverage.
True Match foundation already gives a medium cover and has a very natural finish, so it's possible that you may not  need concealer. I have a two year old, I need concealer to hide my tragic dark circles! One tip is to use True Match concealer sparingly! A little goes a long way and I've actually used the concealer by itself, in lieu of a foundation.
Using a fluffy powder brush, apply Sue Devitt's Seaweed Pressed Powder, I used the shade Sandy Desert. The foundation already has a satin finish so you don't really want to cover the entire face nor block out the holographic effects of the Strobe cream either. I recommend dusting powder over t-zone and blend out and over the face.
Belle Pierre is a new mineral cosmetics line I was recently introduced to through Glossybox. Their Desert Rose loose powder blush is a breath of fresh air. Not only is the pigment concentrated, but the finish is glowy, not cakey nor heavy on the shimmer.
I used Desert Rose in a light application on top of the middle of the cheekbones, swept upward towards the hairline. Kind of like the good ole Nike swoosh. I've used this technique before, but I think when using blushes with a glowy finish, it gives a nice lift to the face. Obviously you want the color to be concentrated on the cheeks and blended outward, unless you want to look crazy, then by all means....

There are a couple options for lips. The first would be more for someone that wants that a sheer wash of color. Jordana has great roll up aka automatic pencils that have a texture that can do double duty as a sheer lip color when used with a lip balm. The Baby Berry liner is a pretty baby pink that looks great when used to line the lips with soft strokes, filling 1/4 of the lip. Afterwards apply Bonne Bell Lip Smacker in Watermelon, yes you read it right, straight from the tube. No fuss no muss.
Jumbo pencils were definitely de rigueur in 2013 and 2014 proves no different. For more coverage and more of a milky lilac pink, I used Jelly Pong Pong Pink Lip Blush to line and fill the lips and topped it with Hard Candy's incredible PlexiGloss in "I Want Candy". This is a very sheer pink gloss, in fact on bare lips it's simply perfect if you just want high shine with minimal pigment. The color is so subtle that when paired with the pink lip blush, it turns into a lilac hued pink color that could kick any MAC lip combo's ass. MAC schmack.

Happy makeuping!!!
