New Years Chic Part 3: Showing Out

Another fun look for winter 2014 is using colorful shadow on the eye. Not reminiscent of Mimi from Drew Carey Show, but a little bit of color adds interest  when your routine has become stale.

Look 2: Showing Out!
As you can see I did a split face makeup look so I could do two different looks but still making the skin look like the anchor of your look, gorgeous with or without color. Also, I did the split face look because I'm tired and let's face it, lazy.
Instead of using a pearlescent shadow base, I'm using my Holy Grail shadow base: NYX's Jumbo Pencil in Milk. Milk is a matte white pencil that I like to use as a base because it provides the ultimate foundation for a colorful shadow.
First up, grab a medium crease brush and your Wet N Wild Petal Pusher palette. Apply the third shadow from the left side of the palette into the crease, but instead of stopping at center iris, bring the color all the way to the inner eye. Getting a bit more shadow one the brush, start at the outer corner and create and fill in the classic "V" shape, so it'll look like an upside down triangle. I guess a melty triangle but a triangle none the less.

Using a smaller fluffy brush, apply a bit of the lavender shadow, the second shadow from the left side, starting from the inner corner of the eye and blending along the lash line. Take the brush and apply a little bit more shade from the inner corner, up below the crease and then down to the lash line. I'm laughing because the shape looks like a slice of pizza. Anyway, shadow!
Taking a smaller crease brush, apply one of my favorite shadow ever: Stars N' Rockets. This is a pinky purple dual chrome shadow and looks amazing with navy shadows, violet shadows and gray shadows. This will be applied above the dark amethyst color in the crease, melting into one another.

Using a flat shadow brush, pat the top left shadow on to the browbone, emphasis on the arch. Again, a light matte or pearl shadow in this area really gives a beautiful lift.
I wanted to mimic the crease colors under the lower lash line to bring some continuity. So I lined upper and lower lashes with the bottom right defining shadow. You'll be adding a liquid liner, so to make the lashes look fuller, brush into the lashes, almost like creating a broader set of lashes.
Under the lower lashes, blend in Stars and rockets so there is a halo of color radiating, mimicking the crease.

NYX is a line that I just really started getting into this year. There are a lot of fun products to try without breaking the bank. The Extreme Blue liquid liner immediately got my attention in the store and made an ideal addition to my liner collection the only other liquid liner that isn't black is my silver MAC liquid liner.
Blah blah blah. I always like having bright metallic color as a liner. It's way more fun and can be a way for the more conservative in the bunch, to wear color that they'd normally she away from. Now if you are in that group, feel free to use this blue on the top lash line only. You'll still get a spot of color but it won't be as obvious.
For this you need a steady hand, I. E. no dogs or toddlers climbing on you like I had. I started my line from the upper outer corner, sweeping down and across the lashes, all the way to the inner corner. Repeat the same thing for the bottom line. It's important to note that you won't be adding the wing until later, so please, let the liner dry before attempting anything else.
Once the liner is dry, take the applicator or fine lining brush, either choice works, dip into product and begin tightening up the line towards the inner eye, making a defined point near the year duct. Let that line dry.
Applying more product, repeat this process traveling up and swept pased the tear duct. You'll want to now join both lash lines to the defined line that you created around the tear duct.

For this look, I had done the split face. Remember, lazy girl over here. So nothing has changed on the face aside from blush. So bust out that Dr. Brandt BB Matte and get to steppin!
don't give much love to Clinique, but I promise, I have a lot of Holy Grail products in this line.
Cliniques blush in Cupid is gorgeous for almost all skin types, unless you have very deep skin tones or very very light skin. It gives a natural flush to the face and looks gorgeous with any lip color, but especially looks gorgeous with gloss.
The emphasis is on the color on the eye so I just went with Cliniques High Lengths mascara, keeping the lash naturally full and focusing on length. Too much volume can detract from the finished look if you are going for such dramatic color.
For brows I lightly applied The Balms Matt(e) Batali shadow with an angled brush and then combed out. Again, a strong brow would've eclipsed the overall look, but I still wanted a good frame. No eyebrow defining on a look this colorful is like putting a Warhol in a jankety frame from Michael's. You just don't do it and if you do, you deserve to be mocked!

The finishing touch is a slick coat of MAC's Cultured Lipglass. Living for the blush and gloss combo and trying to figure out how I can get away with wearing that combo everyday.
Stay tuned for more tutorials and reviews. I've been shooting for three other posts, so hopefully there won't be as long of a delay again!!!
