Iconic 60's Makeup: A Tribute to Françoise Dorléac and Bond Girl,Claudine Auger as Domino Derval

After completing my Sharon Tate makeup tutorial, using bronze and nude tones, I wanted to perk it up with the colors that made the 60's pop.
I didn't have to dig deep for inspiration. French beauties, Françoise Dorléac and Claudine Auger, were painted very simply yet colorful, chic and sexy at the same time. The looks were applied in the same manner, but the colors, especially for lips that made the biggest difference

I used my Star Treatment palette from Bare Minerals, specifically Kudos and Elitist. Both have a pearl finish, but Kudos is more dual chrome, sort of a beige-green. Just go with it.

After priming the lid, apply Kudos from lid and into the crease. Adding the darker green-khaki will enhance the dual chrome effect. Using a tapered brush, apply Elitist starting in the inner corner of the eye, then upward, using soft brush strokes so it doesn't look "paint by numbers".

After you've begun to cut the crease by taking the color upward to the brow, apply more shadow all the way across, slightly under the brow bone. If it's only in the crease and blended into the list, the effect won't be the same and it is a more dramatic look.

One of my favorite liners is Xtreme by Jo Mousselli because it looks like a liquid liner, but you get the control of a pencil. Start at the lower lash line, smudging into the lashes. I lined the waterline very lightly, too much tight lining would make the eye appear smaller and if you can get it closer to the lashes, it creates the illusion of fuller lashes and wider eyes.
For the top line, follow the lash line and wing out the outer corner. Follow by using a flat liner brush and smudge into the lash line. For the "wing", this will make it more precise with looking to drawn on.

For foundation, I would recommend a tinted moisturizer instead of a full coverage foundation. Claudine Auger and Françoise Dorléac have a glowy, "girl next door" look, well the late 60's girl next door.
To complete this, contour and accent highpoints with a cream bronzer, This sounds almost like too much, just trust me. Too Faced has an amazing cream bronzer, so if you want to take some Bond Girl action under water, you'll still be golden and gorgeous!
Set with a translucsent powder and follow with a pink-coral blush. Hot Mama from The Balm is perfect! People compare this to Orgasm by NARS, but it wears less sparkly and more pearly, So less glitter, more of a opalescent. Apply to the tops of the outer cheekbone, sweeping upward, almost like a half moon shape. This technique give bright color without looking clownish and also gives a soft lift!
For lips I used a sheer coral gloss from Borghese. It has a slight sparkle to it and combined with the glossiness, it makes the lip look fuller. I chose to not line the lips, keeping the lips softer.
Finish the look with a great mascara, They're Real by Benefit. I always apply mascara at the end, in case I go wild with the face powder, or I need to tweak the look a bit. They're Real really gives the best lashes! You get great curling, length and volume, so no more using 3 different products. Btw eyelash curlers creep me out and I never use them, this mascara gives great curl so you may not find a lash curler necessary.
This look is the blue print to each look I'm posting, with the lips being the only exception.

This is the finished look #1: Françoise Dorléac

So let's be a Bond Girl! Claudine portrayed Domino Derval with pure sexiness, so for this look I punched it up with an orange red. My new favorite red is from Wet N Wild. Yes, gone are the day's where Wet N Wild was the makeup equivalent of the chain retailer Deb, don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about ; ) Purty Persimmon is so gorgeous and a very close dupe for the MAC Marilyn Collection orange red, Scarlet Ibis.

Prime lips first with a lip balm, which is key because it is a matte lipstick and might feel too drying.Using a lip brush, line the lips with the lipstick and blot. Follow by applying Purty Persimmon to the entire lip.
Voila! Bond Girl realness!!

                     Look #2: Claudine Auger

If you want to wear this look but make it more vibrant, pick a fuchsia lipstick, like Anarchy from Urban Decay.
Line the lips with Milani's Fuchsia lip pencil, filling in the lip half way. Using your lip brush, apply Anarchy directly to the lips. This is a very moisturizing lipstick, so depending on how dry your lips are, you may/may not need a balm base.

                                      Tada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is the perfect blue print for any dramatic look, with the only part needing to be altered is the lip. The eyes are dramatic without taking over the whole look. Normally with a dramatic eye, I go softer on the lip, but the khaki tones lend themselves to a more elegant look, that looks polished, not garish.
What is your favorite retro look?
Stay tuned for a new skin care review! I've been using Michael Todd's Jojoba Bead Scrub and love it!

Françoise Dorléac look with the flash on for the photo on the bottom right and natural lighting for the rest. It captures the glow and but is still soft.

Look #2 Claudine Auger: flash on in photo on the right, natural lighting on the left.

Look #3: Retro contemporary, Flash on in upper right and lower left. I love this lip color with it,                     colors as vibrant as this can change any look that has a more retro vibe, making it less costume-y.
